Cougar2 is an open-standards based high performance solution for capturing, converting and mixing radar video. Designed for demanding military radar applications, Cougar2 speeds and simplifies the integration of advanced radar image processing and distribution functionality into deployed embedded systems.

Based on a single-slot 6U VME form factor Intel Core i7-based host Single Board Computer (SBC), Cougar2 allows applications to be executed locally or remotely via a network for which an API is provided. Cougar2’s RVL+ API is supported on Windows and Linux platforms for ease of application development and configuration. Alternatively, Cougar2 can run applications based on Curtiss- Wright’s long standing PARIS API. Cougar2 is available in a range of ruggedization levels.

Cougar2 uses the Osiris radar input card to provide two independent channels of high-resolution radar video acquisition. The RVP software pre-loaded onto all Cougar2 systems supports a comprehensive engineering GUI for diagnosis and configuration, and optional advanced radar plot extraction and tracking algorithms that can be tuned for optimum performance. Cougar2 also uses the Eagle2 radar scan conversion card to support multiple windows of high rotation rate radar video on the console’s display, with the capability to support graphics underlay (for example, maps) and overlay (including target symbology, range rings and so on).

Cougar2’s modular design means that a given implementation can be customized to include the hardware and software support that the user’s application requires, including radar acquisition, radar scan conversion, and even radar tracking. As a 6U VME single-slot assembly, it can easily be integrated into VME enclosures alongside other cards. The modular design also means that variants of Cougar2 using, for example, a VPX SBC as basecard could be devised; please contact the factory for further details.
