Reduced Vertical Separation Minima (RVSM), or Domestic RVSM (DRVSM), is the term used to describe a reduction in the vertical distance allowed between aircraft as mandated by most aviation authorities in certain airspaces (e.g. airports). Reducing the distance allows more aircraft to fly in the same location. To ensure safety for an increase in air traffic, more accurate information on an aircraft’s altitude is required. To fly in RVSM-designated airspace, most aircraft must be fitted with an air data computer that is RVSM-compliant. This includes Curtiss-Wright’s Enhanced Software Configurable Air Data Unit (ESCADU) air data computer.
